GUIDE FOR US READERS

Folding or rigid solar panel for a battery system?

A folding panel is easier to move toward the sun. A rigid panel can suit a properly designed fixed mount. Neither choice removes the electrical-compatibility check.

Choose how the panel will be used

A portable folding panel can be repositioned at camp and stored when traveling. Include unfolded dimensions, carrying weight and cable reach in the comparison.

A rigid panel needs a secure mounting arrangement appropriate for the site and conditions. Consider wind exposure, cable protection and service access instead of choosing only on nominal watts.

Read the electrical limits before the connector

Check open-circuit voltage, operating current and polarity against the controller or station input. A matching plug shape is not sufficient evidence of compatibility.

A panel marketed for a 12V battery may have a substantially higher open-circuit voltage and need a suitable charge controller. Do not connect it directly to a battery unless the exact system instructions expressly support that arrangement.

Use realistic production expectations

Rated watts come from specified test conditions. Shade, orientation and available sun affect production, so a panel rated at 100W does not supply 100W for every daylight hour.

Use daily energy needs and a conservative sunlight assumption to compare charging potential. The battery stores energy for later; the panel alone does not provide an outage reserve after dark.

Compare complete packages

Check included adapters, cable lengths and controller requirements. The solar panel is often separate from the power station, even when a marketing photograph shows both.

Each product button identifies its actual store. Compare the checked US panel selection, pack quantity and adapters with your own input limits before purchase.
